Copy trading

Copying someone means copying their risk settings. The numbers to ask for before you do.

Two accounts, one set of decisions. What is copied is the risk setting, not the judgement.

What you are buying when you copy somebody

You are not buying their skill. You are buying their risk settings — the size they take, the leverage they hold, how long they sit in a loss — applied to your money at whatever fraction you set.

Which means a strategy that suits an account ten times the size of yours can be the wrong strategy on yours, while being exactly the same trades.

The number to ask for is not the return

Ask for the deepest drawdown and how long the account stayed under water. A curve that doubled and halved twice on the way is a different product from one that ground out the same end figure, and only the second one is survivable at your size.

Then run it on your own balance: what would that drawdown have cost you, at the size you plan to copy at? The profit calculator turns the percentage into money, which is the only form worth judging.

What we have not measured, and will not pretend to

We publish no leaderboard and no provider ranking. We have not audited anybody's track record, and a list of top traders assembled from screenshots is worth less than nothing, because it looks like evidence.

What can be checked is the account the copying happens in — which entity holds it, under which licence, and what a round trip costs there. That is the part of this decision with documents behind it, and it is the part we do publish.

FAQ

Common questions

Whose risk am I taking on when I copy a gold trader?

You take on the strategy's risk, scaled to your account, not the trader's account size. If they trade gold at a size that suits their balance, the same percentage applied to yours can still be too much for your tolerance. Check the drawdown history and the lot sizes behind it before you follow.

What should I ask for before copying a gold strategy?

Ask for the full track record including drawdowns, the average hold time, the lot sizes used and whether the results are live or simulated. Also ask how the provider is compensated, because a fee structure can change behaviour. Anything you cannot verify should be treated as unknown risk.

Does copy trading remove the need to understand position sizing?

No. Copy trading sets the entries, but the size on your account still comes from a ratio you choose, so the risk is yours to set. Use the position size calculator to see what the copied lot size means in dollars at your balance, and cap the allocation as a share of your account.

How does an offshore broker entity affect copy trading from Australia?

It affects who holds your money and what recourse you have. FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK) and CySEC. It does not hold an ASIC licence, so Australian residents deal with an offshore entity — check this before funding. That applies equally to copied and manual trades.

Can I stop copying a gold strategy in the middle of a trade?

Usually you can stop copying, but what happens to open positions depends on the platform's settings: they may be closed or left running under your account. Confirm that behaviour before you start. If positions stay open, you still carry the risk and must manage the exit yourself.
